Ventia to support Babcock Defence HF comms system

Ventia Services Group has been awarded a contract to support Babcock Australasia to deliver upgrades to the Australian Defence Force’s Defence High Frequency Communications System (DHFCS).
This $64 million contract will see Ventia support Babcock and Defence under the JP 9101 – Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS) program, which will provide Australian and allied armed forces with the ability to securely communicate using voice and data from almost any location across the globe.
Mark Ralston, Ventia’s group executive – telecommunications, said the company was pleased to be working with Babcock on this strategically important Defence project, saying, “Ventia’s strategy is to redefine service excellence by being client focused, innovative and sustainable. Our expert capabilities and proven telecommunications experience supports Babcock’s strategy and vision in providing secure, robust communications that are resilient and interoperable.”
Ventia’s scope includes ground works, installation of new antennas and other contractor-furnished equipment, along with internal shelter works. The company has more than 25 years of telecommunications experience in Australia and a 30+ year relationship with the Australian Defence Force.
Ralston’s comments were reinforced by Babcock managing director, mission and support systems, Brad Yelland, who added, “Ventia will play a significant part in the delivery of the EDHFCS program to the Australian Defence Force.
“It was important that we selected a local partner that had the technical know-how and proven experience in delivery. We look forward to partnering with Ventia on this program of national significance,” Mr Yelland said.
Babcock is now the largest provider of strategic high-frequency communications in the world, built on a common mission system architecture that is both scalable and interoperable.
Babcock’s chief executive officer Australasia, David Ruff, said in October 2022 that the company’s strategy and vision is aligned to the needs of the Five Eyes community and its allies — providing secure, robust communications that are resilient and interoperable.
