Navantia Australia achieves first milestones in DDG Phase 6 program

Navantia Australia has achieved on time delivery of every milestone to date, including Preliminary Design Review, for its work as Platform Systems Designer for the SEA4000 Phase 6 Hobart Class Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) Combat Systems Modernisation program.
The highly skilled team from Navantia Australia is performing the complex and extensive ship design and platform integration, to integrate a modernised Aegis Weapon System under Baseline 9, as well as the Tomahawk Weapon system and Saab Australian Interface into the Hobart Class Guided Missile Destroyers, alongside other industry partners including Lockheed Martin Australia, and Saab Australia.
Navantia Australia’s joint engineering team from its Docklands based Naval Design and Engineering Centre and Sydney has worked with the Commonwealth, Lockheed Martin Australia, and Saab Australia, to deliver the functional design for the Hobart Class Combat System Modernisation program. Going forward, plans are developing to expand the Navantia team into Adelaide to support the Osborne Shipyard to facilitate the transition to production and the provision engineering and production support onsite.
“This achievement is a real demonstration of Australian defence industry working collaboratively with Defence to realise Navy’s capability requirements into the future,” said Navantia Australia managing director, Israel Lozano.
Navantia Australia delivered all the engineering drawings for the DDG Phase 6 functional design phase to the Commonwealth in a functional Technical Data Pack (TDP) in early August. This included approximately 100 technical documents, engineering drawings, reports, analyses, and 3D models. Work has now commenced on the Construction Design phase and will extend throughout 2024.
