ASC rolls out digital supply chain for Collins Class support

5 December 2022

The shipbuilding company has launched a digital supply chain, designed to automate and streamline partnership processes.

ASC has announced the establishment of a new digital supply chain mechanism to streamline collaboration with approximately 1,200 local business partners.

The model, which forms part of the company’s Digital Transformation Program, is tipped to improve workflow efficiencies across the Collins Class submarine supply chain by leveraging technology and data to enhance connectivity to suppliers.

This includes automating processes and delivering full visibility of the supply chain for organisations and their suppliers.

This is expected to produce better prediction and decision making, while also strengthening data security.

A pilot supplier portal was launched on 23 November, onboarding a select group of 10 suppliers.

Other suppliers are expected to be onboarded along with additional portal functionality over the course of 2023.

The supplier portal has been designed to assist with contract creation and management, sourcing and invoice management, and supplier collaboration.

“Fully digitising our supply chain is a strategic focus for ASC within our current Digital Transformation Program, as we complete the transition to a digital shipyard,” ASC managing director and chief executive officer Stuart Whiley said.

“An effective digital supply chain has many benefits including real time reporting, advanced parts and logistics tracking and real-time monitoring of supplier performance.

“It will ensure ASC remains at the forefront of supply chain best practice, delivering efficiencies that will benefit our critically important business of sustaining the Collins Class submarines and delivering the fleet’s life-of-type extension.

Whiley added the supplier portal would benefit supply chain partners through improved information flow and increased responsiveness.

“The pilot will enable us to test the systems to ensure a seamless roll out next year,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time for our business and we look forward to working with our current partners and inviting new partners on the journey with us.”
