Marand to boost defence manufacturing capability in Geelong
2 May 2022
Geelong Manufacturing Council (GMC) Member, Marand Precision Engineering, is set to boost defence manufacturing capabilities in the region following a $1.76 million grant as part of the Federal Government’s Modern Manufacturing Strategy.
The grant will enable Marand to develop an integrated welding centre for advanced steel alloys, implementing a welding centre with hardware, software and ancillaries to enable the manufacture of military platforms using high-grade ballistic steels. The increase in capability provides potential export opportunities for future projects.
Marand is a global supplier of precision engineered solutions to a range of industries, including aerospace, defence, rail, automotive, mining and energy. The company designs and manufactures complex equipment, tooling and bespoke products for its predominately blue chip client base, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAE Systems, BHP, Rio Tinto and Carbon Revolution.
The majority of manufacturing work for the defence welding project will be based at the Marand’s North Geelong site, with additional work completed at the organisation’s Moorabbin site.
The project is designed to align to the Defence National Manufacturing Priority road map.
